Introduction

One of the most profound infrastructural changes of the near future will be the implementation of digital identities. They will affect almost everything we do on the internet, as well as countless aspects of our everyday lives. It’s crucial that these systems are ethically built to respect individual rights. This means developing an infrastucture that is not dependent on data silos controlled by big tech companies.

Sparks Foundation is developing a free, responsible, and open-source solution for digital identity. Our services are built bottom-up while respecting the guidelines set for a self-sovereign identity (SSI). This means giving the individual the same control online as they would have irl. Ethically built SSI can radically change the current power dynamics, and give individuals badly needed new tools for controlling the use of their personal data.

Sparks is an entirely community-bootstrapped, community-driven initiative. We are aligned with the purpose of the Sparks Foundation which is guided by the DAO community decisions. Our mission is to build a user-owned digital identity that functions through a wallet that is not tied to any particular blockchain, and that developers can integrate with a few lines of code. The ease of implementation will generate revenue through the software and business layer while keeping personal data as it should be: personal.
